HQS Inspection Checklist

SMOKE DETECTORS

 

____Is there a minimum of one (1) smoke detector per floor?

____Are ALL smoke detectors working?  Do they need batteries?

 

 

WINDOWS

 

____Do all first floor windows have locks?

____Do all windows open and stay open without using something to hold them open?

____Do all windows that can be opened have screens?

____Is there any broken or cracked glass?

____Note: All rooms used for sleeping MUST have a window.

 

 

OUTLETS

 

____Does each room have a minimum of two working outlets OR one outlet and one                          light fixture?

 

 

APPLIANCES

 

____Do all the burners on the stove work and have knobs to control the heat?

____Does the oven work properly?

____Does the refrigerator work properly?

 

 

TRIP HAZARDS

 

____Is all carpet/vinyl/tile secure and free from tripping hazards?

 

 

PAINT

 

____Is there any interior or exterior chipping and peeling paint?

____Do HUD Lead Paint requirements apply?

 

 

BATHROOM

 

____Does the bathroom have a working exhaust vent fan OR is there an operable window with          a screen?

____Does the toilet flush and work properly with no leaks?

____Is the bathroom free of black like substance, including the window sills?

 

 

PLUMBING

 

____Is there hot and cold running water in the kitchen and bathroom?

____Are any of the water/drain pipes leaking?

____Do any of the faucets leak?  Do all the faucets work properly?

____Does the hot water heater have an extension/ discharge pipe?

 

 

HEALTH & SAFETY

 

____Is the entire unit clean and free from clutter?

____Has all trash and garbage been removed from the unit?  Is the outside free from trash and         garbage?

____Is there evidence of mice, insects or vermin?

____Is the roof, foundation and chimney sound and free from hazards?

____Is there more than one exit from the unit?

 

 

HANDRAILS

 

____Damaged, loose or missing handrails.
